CNC Pneumatic Fittings

After using cnc machines that use a vacuum work piece holding system, accessories such as Y-Joiners and X-Joiners and highly flexible hosing to resist crimping and splitting become a massive time saver.

These accessories from local stores such as Parker Hydraulics become very expensive as the mount up, but i've recently come across an online store with a wide selection of different parts at less than half the price ive found anywhere else.

Above is a link to the companies push fit fittings which are what i use personally, but they do offer a wide choice of other options, they are worth checking out.

Glass Balustrading - How they are made

A very popular item in the world of glass processing are glass balustrades. They are being used in all sorts of modern builds and come in various types of glass.

Currently monolithic toughened glass is the most commonly found type, but this is slowly moving towards toughened laminate, which is two monolithic toughened panels, bonded into one using an adhesive inter-layer. The benefit of this is that should either of the two panels break, the second panel is unaffected and is able to hold all of the broken pieces thanks to the inter layer.

We have recently completed a project which specified toughened laminate using 2 panels of 19mm thick glass.

I was away in Italy (see previous post) during the majority of its processing but was able to get a couple photos of the panels being produced on the Intermac CNC.

Visit to Intermac Factory - Italy - First on the Internet

I've recently visited Intermac's factory in Italy. As you can see from the photos below the scale of production is huge.

I've looked a few times for photos of the Intermac Factory production area and have never come across any so i believe these may be the first.

I was very lucky to see the largest glass cnc ever built being constructed, it has a 19 (or 18???) meter x 4 meter bed and is headed to china on completion.

Glass Splashbacks for the modern kitchen

One of the most popular bespoke products in glass at the moment would have to be kitchen Glass Splashbacks.

These are made by cutting up a stock sheet of glass into oversized parts which will later become splashbacks.

These are then machined on all edges to provide a smooth, safe and attractive edge. This also helps to increase the chances of the panel surviving the Tempering Process.

Once the glass has had all of its machining performed, such as socket cutouts and wall unit notches, the panels are then toughened in a tempering furnace. This will provide the glass with heat resistance of around 500 degrees, more than enough for use in the kitchen environment.

Then the glass is spray painted on the back side and installed into a kitchen using mirror adhesive.
