Glass Balustrading - How they are made

A very popular item in the world of glass processing are glass balustrades. They are being used in all sorts of modern builds and come in various types of glass.

Currently monolithic toughened glass is the most commonly found type, but this is slowly moving towards toughened laminate, which is two monolithic toughened panels, bonded into one using an adhesive inter-layer. The benefit of this is that should either of the two panels break, the second panel is unaffected and is able to hold all of the broken pieces thanks to the inter layer.

We have recently completed a project which specified toughened laminate using 2 panels of 19mm thick glass.

I was away in Italy (see previous post) during the majority of its processing but was able to get a couple photos of the panels being produced on the Intermac CNC.
